Great White!
08 December 2017 | MV Reel Dreams, Pacific Ocean
Janice
Well we are 8 days into this passage. It is a slower boat than anticipated (averaging 4.5 knots but we have just had three days barely making 4kts) in order to have fuel reserves at the end. Watching paint dry is one thought but ocean crossing in a Kadey Krogen is a new dimension in slow, we have never been in such a slow boat! Typically the wind would have pushed Destiny along at 7 kt average. We have also had days of bad weather so we have headed further South to avoid the worse of the storms. Today is the first relatively calm day since starting out so we have cleaned the inside of the boat and are currently doing the laundry. Both Andy and I have been seasick but Janice is currently eating hourly to make up reserves. Hopefully we will have calmer conditions now which will help with the boat speed. We have now set a course for Honolulu. Still 10 days to run, ETA 20 December. Not much wildlife to see. 2 nights ago we had squalls and lightning all night. The clo cks went back another hour yesterday and there will be another hour to lose before we reach Honolulu (-10 GMT). Bud and the dog Bubba are good company and Bud enjoys cooking so I am getting a break while not feeling well. Today is the first day the crew have been in shorts and t-shirts.
