A good day

09 June 2012
Naloan the navigator
Today was a good day - no jobs done (on Destiny anyhow), no sweat spilt, and a few too many calories in. Having had one of Shauna's magnificent green curries last night (this one was fresh Mahi Mahi!) we slept the sleep of the innocent and woke late.
John started the day helping Bruce on Blue Spirit with the refitting of his genoa (that had torn, as mentioned earlier). The sailmaker had resewn it, but with too thick a layer of webbing and it wouldn't fit in the luff groove in the furling foil - so it was taken away and resewn yet again. Back it came, snug but hoistable, and that was good.
A lovely Jambon a l'Os salad for lunch, and we tidied the boat for a visit from our old friends Stephanie and Philibert, a young French New Caledonian couple we first met here in Port Moselle in 2008 when Phil had sailed their then boat, Mer Amour, from Miami to New Caledonia. They now have three kids and it was so nice to see them all. Phil is a tennis coach and Steph is a teacher. Her mother is visiting from France and it was great to have them all here for coffee and patisseries: the oldest boy Naloan, is a really sharp kid and destined for big things (Phil tells us that he has good topspin forehand AND backhand already at the age of 6!) We will go to their home in Tontouta later in the week and hope to take them out for a sail before we head off for Port Vila.
Thanks to all who have sent emails - it is nice to hear how everyone is faring back home.
Cheers from us....
