Lifou Island
17 June 2008 | We ("Way") Harbour
John and Shauna
After our last missive, we had a very slow motor-sail across to Lifou. We arrived in We Harbour at about 13:30 Monday and checked in with LuLu the harbourmaster. He is a friendly, welcoming fellow who is really keen to help visitors. We had a bit of an explore that afternoon, meeting a couple of French expats in the small marina. It's a marina set up like a European small boat harbour, with the boats tied up around the inside of a small square enclosure. Very small, quiet and secure.
Today is Market day, and we walked down to buy some fruit and vegies, and found that it is Music Day - so we got to hear some local talent and relax in the sun.
We complain about Internet speeds at home, but it is incredibly slow here, and in the net cafe kids are trying to study at speeds they wouldn't tolerate back in Oz.
We met a nurse from the island's hospital and she has been very kind in letting us use her car to go to have a look around and to get frozen supplies from the shops - she is living on her boat in the marina across from us.
