Bahamas
30 November 2014 | Lucaya
Comfortable and resting here in the Bahamas. We are in a lovely anchorage and spending time with us are old friends from Night Hawk here in Lucaya. It is our first visit here and we are finding it is a little different than other places we have visited in the Bahamas, and what we have seen other years. A number of resorts are located here near the port of Freeport.
After two weeks working in the boatyard and getting the boat in the water on Nov. 14 we immediately headed to Sunset Bay Marina, Stuart Florida. There we did some final preparation which included replacing a solar panel, getting some spare parts, some last minute provisioning, and topping off water, fuel, and gas. We met up with Chris and Kerm, Minnesotans from back home, who are currently staying there at the marina. Chris was nice enough to take us in their truck down to Riviera Beach to get some new wetsuits. So nice to see friends from home!
The highlight of cruising is always meeting up with cruising friends and meeting new folks! We had a chance to see our friends on Y Knot, Linda and Jim, and catching up with them.
Like many of the other cruisers there we were looking for a weather window to cross to the Bahamas. We left after nine days and headed to Lucaya on Monday Nov. 24. We arrived at 1:30 AM Tuesday, and came into the port in the dark. It was an easy entry with our fellow cruisers Susan and Barry on Night Hawk leading the way.
We have been here a few days now exploring the area. The weather seems to be stuck in a pattern of strong winds for at least the next week so we plan to just stay here for a while. Today we are going on an explore the island tour, compliments of one of the local resorts along with a few t-shirts.
