30 December 2014 | Raccoon Cay, House Bay
We spent a couple of lazy days in George Town and headed south on Christmas Day on our way to the Ragged Islands. Anchored out south of Hog Cay Cut a mile or more from shore one night. The wind came up around midnight and caused us to drag a bit. No worry though because there was nothing to drag into. In the morning the wind died down a bit and we set off for Flamingo Cay. The winds were brisk but it made for a nice sail all the way. We spent 3 nights at Flamingo and did not see any other boats or hear any chatter on the marine radio. Phones don't work there either so it was pretty quiet. Dick broke his little toe getting into the cockpit one morning so that put a damper on snorkeling, but he did go for a little while. He saw lots of conch and lobster but he left them alone. We have not seen even one Lionfish yet this year which is surprising. The only fishing we did was from the dinghy. We had some bait we kept from the Mahi we cleaned and found it worked very well. We had two lines out and caught two Triggerfish at almost the same time. A Red Hind just minutes before. The Red Hind is very meaty for its size. We are now at Raccoon Cay where we get a weak phone signal but strong enough to get and send messages. We intend to stay here in the Raggeds for the next month or so.
We know that the Triggerfish as well as all reef fish in the Bahamas may cause Ciguatera disease so we have chosen to eat a small portion of the Triggerfish to test it before eating the rest.
