The anchor chain is Acco 3/8 HT hot galvanized chain of 200 ft lengths (grade 43, stamped G4 into each link. HT stands for High Tensile). When we started out cruising in the 80ies, we had a chain 300 ft long and learned quickly, there were 100 feet too many, so we cut some chain off and the 200 ft length was enough. Even on Diesel Duck, in 5 years, we never let out more chain than 180 feet. The chain has a 5400 lbs safe working load. The shackle plus swivel is also matched to this safe working load. The 5/8 jaw eye swivel and the 5/8 srew pin anchor shackle should be manufactured to US Drop Forged Fed. Spec Type IV by a trusted company for material handling like ACCO, PEERLESS or CROSBY.
