We steered course 757 on the good ship Virgin Australia all of the 7000nm to Los Angeles before joining Captain America to Miami. A short landcruising session ensued with our daughter. We visited South Beach, the Everglades, and various cafes, restaurants etc. Respectively, lots of babes, no surf, alligators, hopeless coffee, huge portions, and dismal wine. We stayed at the relentlessly 3 star Hotel Habana Libre. We had a delightful 21st birthday party for Hannah with her friends from uni. Then, back on the plane and the excellent movie selection.

14/12/2008, Blue Mountains
The crew of Diomedea decided to do some landcruising and what better reason that to celebrate our 27th wedding anniversary. We left Sydney in pouring rain and a building storm on Friday night and drove to Wentworth Falls. A deep low was forming over Victoria and with it came ferocious winds etc etc. Not a good weekend for sailing! After surviving a very prolonged stop on the highway at Lapstone, we made it to the Whispering Pines Guest House about 7pm. Saturday brought clearish skies but huge westerly breeze. Andrea and I did the National Pass walk and took some pix of the rather large amounts of water coming over Wentworth Falls. Much of it was held in mid air or blown up by the wind. Fantastic. We also did a celebratory lap of the Giant Staircase - 8 mins down and 10.5min up (13 for Andrea). The wind continued to build in the evening but we were snugged up in the magnificent Darley's restaurant in Lilianfels resort. The degustation menu was our choice and was beyond superlatives. I have some pix of the restaurant, menu and food. Overnight we had trees down, the power out for 12 hours - the whispering pines were howling in protest! After a late start on Sunday it was off to do the Grand Canyon walk, again with some nice waterfall shots. Andrea and I are now all fired up to get back into real canyoning, having not done any for some years. We drove back to Sydney in the afternoon hoping to go to the CCCA Xmas party in Pittwater. Rather to our surprise and disappointment, it had been held on Saturday!
