30 April 2015 | Ao Po Marina, Phuket
David and Andrea
Our shipping date (Yes, we are putting Diomedea on a ship to Turkey - we are not going to run the pirate gauntlet.) was pushed back to end of April so we were very pleased to have a visit from G&T from Dragon. We did a tiki tour out to Rai Le and a nearby island for a few nights which proved most pleasant. Even did some sailing with the assy spinnaker. Once back at Ao Po we availed ourselves of Gary’s superior sailmaking skills to help us pack away our sails for the shipping. Everything flappy or moveable has to come off the deck. So now our saloon is full of main and jib, and we have lost our table. A big thank you for your efforts Gary and Tina. We farewelled them and then got working on our to-do list prior to loading. David spent way too much time in the remarkably warm anchor locker attending to rust and then identifying a terminal issue with the anchor winch electric motor. Andrea has been cleaning up the boat and sorting clothing as we will be away from Diomedea for some weeks. In between times we have had many soaks in the resort pool, a session with a personal trainer at the gym, and a muscle grinding “relaxing Thai massage” from a Thai lady. ( Would not want to have a non-relaxing one!) We have had some meals out, catching up with some rally friends, and done some limited sight seeing. With the crew of Gypsea Rover we drove all over Phuket island and passed through the tourist ghetto of Patong. Apparently this area is named after the noise the ping-pong balls make when expelled. Anyway, Patong makes Surfers Paradise look very attractive.
