The city of Ciutadella is located at the western end of Menorca, previously the old capital of the island and what a beautiful city it is. In order to get there we caught the bus from Fornells to Es Mercadel where there was a connecting bus awaiting to take us onwards to Ciutadella.



Leading back from the harbour is the city's old quarter. At its entrance is the charming square bordered by elegant palaces and shaded outdoor cafes. Heading away from the square, the narrow lanes are filled with Medieval, Gothic and Moorish architecture. Buildings are almost rustic in colour with wrought iron balconies. There are many boutique shops located under archways that provide shade plus basement shops, plenty of restaurants, alfresco cafes and tapas bars to choose from. It's a really attractive town with an Italian feel and a lovely place to spend the day. Highly recommended for its beauty and charm.
