In less than 3 months we have a mini-ecosystem growing on our props and shafts!


Action cam to the rescue again... attached to an extendable boat hook and submerged!

At first glance it doesn't look too bad but having left the marina to go out for a day-sail Flirtie could barely make 2.3 knots in calm water with both engines labouring (her normal cruising speed is about 7 knots). Earring on the side of caution we cut the day short on the basis that if any chop appeared in the bay then we'd probably not be able to get back to the marina this side of this Christmas! Okay, possibly a slight exaggeration but we're certainly not going anywhere until we man the diver...

Maybe it's time to consider antifouling the shafts and propellers when we next lift out?
