Benodet
We had to catch up on some 'chores' as a priority so we started the day by obtaining a tourist map from the harbour master and paying our dues.
We found a coffee shop providing free WIFI which allowed us to do some banking. Having had our refreshment we then found the nearest laundrette in a holiday park (named Yellow Village) which was right next door to the Carrefour supermarket.
Whilst the huge 20kg washer was busy washing our cloths we made use of the time in Carrefour. So far, this is the most expensive load of washing; 12 euro for washing and 4 euro for drying. The weather has been really disappointing as we are still wearing jeans and jumpers. I'm sure one day soon we will be in t-shirts and shorts!!
Chores done we could now do some sightseeing so we walked along the promenade on the Benodet side of the river to the headland in the distance. Benodet is a seaside resort with numerous holiday parks, shops, bars and restaurants. It has large stretches of fine sandy beaches. Sainte Marine is on the opposite side of the river.
Yachts of all shapes and sizes reside both sides in either Sainte Marine or Penfoul Marinas or on numerous buoys in the river. A huge road bridge standing at a height of 28m links Benodet to Sainte Marine.
Several ferry boats 'vedettes' provide trips either to the Iles de Glenan or up the Odet river.
At the height of season we imagine it gets pretty busy, so we are quite pleased that we are a little early in the season as already the Marinas are reasonably full and there are quite a few tourists around.
We finished the day with home cooked Moules Mariniere and a glass (or two) of Muscadet.
Planning on spending the next couple of days up the Odet river.
