On the road again ... Redon to Pornichet Log, part 2
Waking to some early morning mist and a very damp boat, we donned our yellow waterproofs and woolly hats yet again and left the jetty around 7am heading back out to sea for the 30 mile trip to Pornichet. The river estuary is pretty shallow and the wind was on our nose which caused some short and choppy waves and a bumpy ride for a few hours until we were in deeper water and able to change our course. This allowed us to sail for most of the way passing Ile Dumet on our starboard side whilst noticing the mainlands rocky coastline scattered with white washed, slate roofed houses.
Further along the coastline and in the distance we passed Piriac and La Turballe before crossing the 'Baie du Pouliguen' with it's very long sandy beach and high rise apartments, Pornichet being on the south-east end of the Bay.
Spotting the entrance into the Marina was interesting as it's almost hidden until the final approach when it suddenly appears visible against the marina perimeter wall. To gain access, a pretty sharp right turn is needed as well as keeping a good look out for oncoming vessels exiting the narrow entrance.
Total distance this season: 541.92 nautical miles
