taking our time touring Ile d'Yeu
We're pleased with our decision to revisit Ile d'Yeu out of season...
Firstly and most importantly we are paying a reasonable €21.30 per night, instead of the eye watering €36.90 we paid last year for Drummer in the high season. It's made such a difference that we feel we can afford to stay here longer and really explore the island instead of rushing off and missing the delights.
Secondly, the marina is quiet, the town is quiet and you can't help but notice a significant reduction in the amount of bicycles around. From our point of view, it's now much more relaxing.
Any negatives? Well, the weather hasn't been that great. There is a distinct coolness in the air and we've resorted to wearing jumpers on the odd occasion. The waterproofs have been taken out of the locker, dusted off and are ready to use at a moments notice.
Once again, the 'petit train' that tours the island isn't running due to lack of numbers... Déjà vu? Yep.
Still wanting to tour the island, I stupidly mentioned once again to Bruce that we could consider hiring bikes... a similar conversation to last year. His silence said it all... (Obviously Bruce still hasn't recovered following our bike antics on Ile d'Groix, well over a year ago!)
So, having checked the bus timetable and with a reduced service we've spent the last couple of days 'touring' the island either by bus, at €1.40 per ticket it's certainly really good value or by foot.
