we're back...
Well we're back aboard Flirtie who's sat in the boatyard eagerly awaiting some TLC.
It's fair to say the last few months have been busy...
Before Christmas we travelled back to La Rochelle in order to check on 'Distant Drummer' and collect the car which was being stored with our friends.
We were amazed that we could travel from Faro airport to London Stansted, stay overnight at the Premier Inn then fly back out from Stansted to La Rochelle for just over £100 for both of us. Superb value but it was very surprising that we couldn't fly from Faro to any of the airports in France close to La Rochelle (Nantes, Bordeaux etc) cost effectively. Through RyanAir we were also able to book the shuttle bus (FaroShuttleBus) and customise the pickup point making it very convenient indeed.
Within 36 hours we arrived in La Rochelle where we spent the week with our friends Barry & Steph who kindly put us up and looked after us. Much time was spent chatting, visiting all our favourite shops (for boatie stuff and Christmas presents etc) and of course checking on Distant Drummer. Thanks again both for your generosity and help. We'll see you again sometime during 2015.
We chose the overnight ferry from Caen allowing us to drive to Caen during the day, get a few hours kip in the cabin before disembarking early the next morning to spend some time at the numerous Chandleries around Port Solent and Portsmouth before motoring home to Cheltenham.
Seeing and spending quality time with our family over Christmas and the New Year was wonderful but far too short. Thanks everyone for putting up with us, we love you all so much and will Skype soon.
We had the opportunity to catch up with some close friends from 'Dartmouth', Dave and Jill who originally waved goodbye to us when we left Dartmouth some 3.5 years ago (where has the time gone?) and Karen and Trevor (we go back many, many years!). It was fabulous to see you all and looking so well. Text/email soon.
Photos to follow when we're using free Wi-Fi. :-)
