Day 115 - Quebec City, QC

Day 115 - Mon 20 Jul 2015
Docked - Quebec City, QC
[Toby and Almut (holding a cup with our club burgee) with Diane in their Quebec Apartment]
While I have my doubts how much to trust the forecasts I am viewing, and was surprised to see the strong NE wind warning remaining in effect for all of today, the prudent thing to do was delay another day. Jon from our soon to be buddy boat, Zendo, came over at 0730 and we chatted about planned stops, distances, tidal currents and time for over an hour over coffee. We seem to have similar goals, except I am thinking about moving 90nm or so in one day when the conditions are good and then resting a day. Jon might prefer to move 45nm each day, if weather allows. We will certainly see what works out best.
Near 0900, the Quebecoise woman from Pilgrim stopped over to say goodbye, and I told we were staying another day. Not long after, Robert from Errante stopped over for the same reason. They have family arriving today and will be here a while. Diane and I discussed what we wanted to accomplish today and decided we had done enough walking around town and were not interested in any museums at this time.
Our friends, Toby and Almut, invited us via email to supper at their apartment after they heard we were delaying a day due to weather. I got out my bicycle and rode to the store about a mile away for a few things, plus picked up some more wine. The bike sure got a lot of stares, as it is definitely different than most folding bikes.
Diane used up some frozen shrimp to make a nice salad for lunch and then we lay around lazily reading. Mid-afternoon we went to the office to pay for yet another night, then off to the pool, and then took showers. It was very nice at the pool, with barely a few others there, and when the sun was unobscured by clouds, it was pretty hot. Florida weather in summer is much more predictable - 90-95F with chance of thunderstorms every afternoon about 1600-1700, almost every day for months.
At 1630, we got ready and started walking over to Toby and Almut's apartment. It was still very warm, but there was a little breeze to keep things comfortable. Each time we take a slightly different route and this one was the most efficient, but we still had a long, steep climb up to the top. It was very nice relaxing in their apartment and chatting about all sorts of things.
Almut made a fabulous pork chop dinner with roasted potatoes and steamed string beans. We enjoyed it immensely and cleaned our plates. It seemed like all too quickly it was getting near sunset. They offered to drive us back to the marina, but when I checked with Diane, she was game to walk (downhill) home. On the way, we stopped at Maison Simons and she bought another $35 dress that she wore home on top of her other clothes. The wind had picked up and the air had a chill to it again.
Clyde got a nice long walk on the docks before it was time for bed. We are pretty sure the weather will cooperate with us tomorrow to make track to Cap-a-l'Aigle (Eagle Cape) for the night where we hope they will have room. Then on Wed, we plan to travel a much shorter run to Tadoussac for a few days.
