Taumotus
23 July 2010 | We're still in Bora Bora
Don
The Tuamotu's are all atolls and we would like to have seen more of them (there is a lot of them). When we went into Rangaroia it was an outgoing tide. I "floored" the throttle and we went in at 2.5 knots. The entrance is wide and we didn't have any problems. When we left there, I had the throttle set at 1200 RPM's and we flew out of the entrance at 7 knots, quite a difference. When you cross the "bar" it is so weird, it's like you never left the ocean (lumpy), but it is flat calm (the sea). We couldn't see the other side of the lagoon. We went to a place in the lagoon called "The Blue Lagoon". It was on the Westerly side and it's weird, sailing along at 6 knots in dead calm seas. We had some trouble there with 'coral heads", had to dive on the anchor 3 times at different places. We then returned back to the main anchorage for a couple of days. When we left for Tahiti, we had calm seas and NO wind.
