Chasing That Horizon!

We've gone about as far as we can for the season. Yes, there is still the entire Chesapeake Bay to explore before summer's end, but we needed a break and a change of scenery. We will store the boat on the hard in Deltaville for the winter. It will get cold there, but not like the typical winters, a hundred miles north. Shrink wrapping is not commonly done here, as long as we winterize the boat's systems. We weren't too excited with the prospect of backtracking to North Carolina, so this should be a good and much more affordable option for us.

But first, we had to rent a car, drive back to Alabama, and get the motorhome out of storage. It was a gorgeous drive partially down the Blue Ridge Parkway. Arriving back in Scottsboro, AL, we found the motorhome in good running shape, and after reconnecting the batteries, everything started right up. But mice had invaded, necessitating a thorough cleaning. We spent four days cleaning, changing oil, flushing systems, washing the exterior, oiling hinges, and doing lots of laundry. And we had to set some mouse traps and baits.

With all of that done, we are now back on the road. Our first stop was Lynchburg, Tennessee, where we toured the Jack Daniel Distillery. That was great fun, with what was probably Keith's first taste of Jack Daniels. The next stop was Nashville, where we toured the CMA Hall of Fame and Museum and RCA Studio B, where Elvis and others recorded so many hits. A fine dinner of BBQ was had, followed by a walk up and down Broadway. Nashville is a vibrant city.

Up next...Bowling Green, KY, where we will visit the Corvette assembly plant and museum, Mammoth Caves National Park, and take a quick trip back to Nashville to tour the Ryman Auditorium and the Parthenon. We will then make our way back to Deltaville, VA, where we will haul the boat and put it in winter storage. Then we are headed north for Maine, Bay of Fundy, New York, and other points, working our way back south as Fall and Winter may chase us.
