After two weeks on the hard, Dragon's Toy now has a brand new bottom, including the barrier coat to keep the water out and a nice thick coat of hard anti-foul. At the same time, Tom took advantage of being ont he hard to tackle a very long list of maintenance items that had been building since leaving San Francisco.
Photos Here. While in the boat yard, a sail make came by for measurements for a new main sail. We will pick that up in Bristol next week.
Dodson's was a great place to have work done on the boat. The yard rates are cheaper than San Francisco and I think that the work is superior to what KKMI did for us in 2008 and 2010. Part of the reason for needing new bottom paint is KKMI did not properly clean the hull when painting last time and it was pealing off in large chunks. The paint where attached was still in pretty good shape after two years in the tropics. One other bottom paint item was we had to move the bottom paint up over the boot stripe. We have been loading down Dragon's Toy with more and more stuff, we are now floating a good 5-6 inches below the original water line. One day, we might buy a bigger boat to carry all of this stuff.
