Happy Birthday - Emily
We spent about a week in DC doing all the typical touristy stuff. In addition to seeing the president, we visited the Air and Space Museum, Spy Museum (at DJ's and Nicole's request), Natural History, Aquarium, Zoo, and the mall. Lisa also went to the Holocaust Museum and found it to be very enlightening not to mention extremely heart breaking. We enjoyed everything very much with the exception of the Aquarium. I guess after you've spent time in the Bahamas you get a little spoiled. After seven days, it was really time to get moving north again. Departing from DC also marked the point in our trip that would separate us from Beach Magic to continue our journey home. Their companionship and friendship for the past 11 weeks has been wonderful. Lisa is also sad to say Au revoir to her French teachers, she has really embraced the language. Beach Magic is heading back to Virginia where they will be leaving their boat at a marina. After leaving DC, we traveled the 150 miles to Annapolis in two days. With no wind to sail, they turned out to be very long days. We arrived in Annapolis on the 24th and were glad to be back here. We spent so much time here last October, we feel right at home. After a full day of rest we departed nice and early for Chesapeake City, the start of the C&D Canal. Unfortunately we didn't make it all the way and needed to divert up the Sassafras River due to a seized alternator. There is a heat wave here in Maryland with temps in the high 90's. The marina has a pool and we are spending all of our time trying to keep cool. This time we don't have to sneak in. The nights have been tough for sleeping. We had a family camp out on the trampolines. It was very comfortable. The air circulates underneath them. It was nice to sleep under the stars again. The alternator arrived and we continued our journey to Cape May where we are awaiting a weather window. It looks like Saturday, June 30th we will head to Block Island.
