Punta Leona to Puntarenas

12 February 2016
Today during the 18 mile motor sail we had our first taste of papagayo winds (gap winds that pour over the narrow and low lands of Central America from the Caribbean) – within two hours we went from 0 to gusts up to 28 with winds varying in direction by 120 degrees. We arrived around noon, but could not make entry into the lagoon until two hours before high tide (both for depth and slowing of the currents). Around 3:00 pm The Costa Rica Yacht Club sent a panga out to guide us in and we were surprised to tie up to a small dock anchored in the middle of the waterway (it even has a fresh water hookup – woohoo!). First time we’ve had this kind of mooring! We signed up for a month here – we’re expecting friends towards the end of the month, so will do some land touring and chores before their arrival. Bruce has contacted Simrad regarding the autopilot problem – he believes it’s either the motor or brushes. The yacht club is 60 years old, but has been well maintained – showers, restaurant, pool, wifi, 24 hour panga service to shore and well lit with good security. The beach is just across the street - we’re home for a while!
