Santa Marta

Off to Tayrona National Natural Park! Tayrona is located on the northern Caribbean coast of Colombia and encompasses 37k acres (15 hectares) of land with 27 species of fauna and flora found only in this region, as well as 56 endangered species. We took a one hour bus ride to the park entrance, 10 minute van ride to the hiking trail, hiked two hours up and down the hills (some of it on a boardwalk) arriving at El Cabo San Juan around 1:00 pm. After lunch we spent time on the beach, boarding a VERY overcrowded boat for a wet 50 minute boat ride back to Taganga (we disembarked into the water via a step ladder placed next to the boat). We then took a 20 minute bus back to Santa Marta arriving back at our hotel around 7:00 pm – long, fun day!
