Puerto Perme
14 March 2015
Today we went ashore to the pueblo of Puerto Perme and walked to the nearby village of Anachucuna. We were told that Anachucuna grew too large and a second village was established with a few families six years ago. When we arrived we learned that a three day chicha (an alcoholic beverage based on fermented corn and/or sugar cane – Big Dog tried it in Bogota – YUK!) festival was underway with the men and women separated into two big huts. The young men of the village were being initiated into manhood in the men’s hut and we weren’t quite sure what the women were doing besides smoking cigarettes (we were banned from their area). Some of the young people were doing traditional dancing with flute playing – sorry the photo is not better, but I took it on the sly as photography was discouraged.
