Waterspouts, Tornado, lightning storm, downpours
22 October 2017 | Ingram Bayou
I guess there is a reason the snowbirds don't arrive here until middle of November! We went ashore yesterday to scout Orange Beach and it is definitely snowbird territory for folks around the world.
Today we decided to take E Heart to a Bayou in Orange Beach. Bad plan. Halfway there a squall that was not forcast hit us. At least there are no big waves here, so we just went close to shore and anchored. Half hour later Susans cell phone, my vhf radio, and the local radio station started squawking. A waterspout had started about 6 miles from us amd was heading to Gulf shores, just off our position. We stayed put as it was not going to impact us. An hour later the squawks started again. This time a small tornado had fired up 15 miles from us and was heading inland. It sure is a different feeling when you are this close. We pulled up anchor and went to our safe little anchorage. As i write this we have a lightning storm and torrential down pour happening. Now the sqawker went off and said Mobile and surrounding areas will get flooding tonight.
All a day in the Eagle Heart adventure!
No picture, because you can’t see a thing!
