Day 1 to New Caledonia

This is the second longest passage of this trip at 1124 miles. Number one was of course the Galapagos to Marqueses leg at 2970 miles, three was the Bahamas to Panama leg at 963 miles, and four was the Panama to Galapagos leg at 930 miles. Day one saw us knock off 205 miles leaving us 919 miles to go. In a few hours we will be passing through the reef system that extends south and east from Fiji. Happy to be doing it in daylight as the chart is full of warnings regarding shoals reported by both boats and airplanes. Leaving Tonga the ocean is full of dangers as well such as volcano's that rise up out of the water and then submerge after a few weeks. The wind has slacked off a bit but still 20 plus so should be able to have another good run today. Caught a large Mahi-Mahi yesterday which John managed to surf into the boat. Put the rods away after that as no one was up to another one.
