Today is the first time we had a bad experience in our voyage. We were anchored in a deep bay of Faaroa (actually on a buoy) and we decided to go up the river of Aopponau with the dinghy. The ride was really beautiful and you can go up for about a mile. On the way in, we crossed a dock accessing a botanical garden where a bunch of kayaks were afloat .A lady told us that it was really pretty and we were welcome to visit, she added that it was safe to leave our things there. So we went ahead and walk around for about half an hour. The group with the kayaks left just as we arrived. When we came back from our walk, our spare gas tank (full of gas) had disappeared. So be aware! Do not leave anything in your dinghy and chain your gas tank around this area. We also had two pairs of water shoes disappearing as well, so I would advise the cruisers to be careful in Raiatea. Beside this, we had a wonderful time hiking in Tahaa and Raiatea with absolutely breathtaking views. One hike (one hour) is located in the main city of Uturoa, where you can dock for free and restock with veggies, fruits and merchandises. You can follow the direction of the gendarmerie and take the first small street just before the gendarmerie, it will lead you all the way up the hill of Tapioi (you can see the antennas on the hill from the dock ) where the view is fantastic, it is a great aerobic exercice as well!!! Another very nice hike is located in a bay of Vairaki, it reminds me the hike in the mountains of the Marquesas. If you take the path next to the ranch, it is about 2 km of easy walk and it is very pretty. Once you arrive at the river, you must cross it and it becomes more challenging: We did not go all the way up to the falls but we were told it was well worth it, there are 3 falls and ropes that lead from one to another. We were too worn out by our previous hikes to continue but for info the total hike is about 2 hours... Tomorrow we are leaving for the famous most beautiful island of the world.... Bora Bora.
Aujourd'hui, pour la premiere fois depuis le debut de notre voyage, nous avons eu une mauvaise experience. Nous etions amarres a une bouee dans la grande baie de Faaroa et nous avons decide de prendre le lit de la riviere Aopponau avec l'annexe. La ballade traverse une vegetation luxuriante , la riviere peut se remonter sur 1 km et demi. Sur le chemin nous avons croise un petit quai flottant qui donnait acces a un jardin botanique sur lequel etait attach�e une dizaine de kayaks. Une dame nous a dit que c'etait joli et nous a recommande la visite. Elle a ajoute que nous pouvions laisser nos affaires sur place sans probleme. Donc nous y sommes alles et avons marche une demi heure dans le parc. Le groupe avec les kayaks partait alors que nous arrivions. Quand nous sommes rentres de notre ballade notre seconde nourrice d'essence avait disparue. Donc faites attention a cet endroit, ne laissez rien dans votre annexe et cadenassez vos reservoirs! Deux paires de chaussures ont aussi disparues de notre annexe , donc faites attention a Raiatea. A part cela, nous avons pass� de tres bon moments en rando a Raiatea et Tahaa avec des points de vie splendides! Une rando d'une heure se trouve dans la ville principale de Uturoa, prendre le petit chemin juste avant la gendarmerie en direction de la colline de Tapioi (vous pouvez apercevoir les antennes depassant du sommet) . La vue est fantastique et c'est aussi un bon exercice d'aerobic!!! Une autre tres jolie ballade se trouve dans la baie de Vairaki, cela m'a rappele le paysage des montagnes des Marquises. Si vous prenez le chemin menant au ranch (il y a une pancarte avec le nom du ranch, vous ne pouvez pas le manquer), il y a a peu pres 2 Km de paysage splendide et une marche tres facile jusqu'a la riviere, au dela, cela devient plus hardu mais apr�s s'etre renseigne aupres de randonneurs de passage, cela vaut vraiment le coup, trois cascades de suite et des cordes menant de l'une a l'autre, pour nous c'etait un peu trop loin ce jour la (la ballade est de 2 heures en tout, jusqu'a la riviere cela prend environ � d'heures) et nous etions fatigues de nos randos prececdentes ( a part Jean-Mi toujours partant, il voulait y aller en courant pour nous dire si cela valait le coup!, nous l'avons dissuade!). Demain nous partons pour la fameuse plus belle ile du monde .....Bora Bora.
