O'VIVE PACIFIC CROSSING
A family travels from Florida to New Zealand aboard their St Francis 50 catamaran
Back in the Bahamas

03/27/2009, Staniel Cay, Bahamas

Ovive is back in the Bahamas. We left Ft Lauderdale on March 19th just before midnight. We were going to leave the next morning on the 20th but by leaving late on the 19th we avoided a Friday departure (which we have done with no adverse affects before) but more importantly jumped across before the wind started blowing. And it has been blowing ever since! It's nice to be back in the clear water of the Bahamas. We never saw water as clear as here all the way across the Pacific. Although there are many other boats it seems very quiet without Orca III and Malachi.

O'Vive arrived today and we are so happy to reunite with her. Dockwise did a great job, she needs another deep fresh water cleaning and she will be all new again!
The kids are in the Keys with their friends this week-end, they were so excited to see everybody again.
I spoke to my friend Marg from Malachi tonight, New zealand is so far and I miss them all so much, New Zealand is getting colder already (72 deg during the day, cooler at night).
Florida is also around 75 deg and cooler at night, the sky is blue and beautiful....

So nice to be back in Florida and see our friends!

We left Colorado, crossed the country (by Car) and arrived in florida for a first stop In Melbourne Beach, FL to see Jorge and Bonnie, they moved from the Keys to a very nice house very quiet with a lot of land near a protected park where all kind of animals can be seen (even an armadillo), the kids cruised on a golf cart all day , they had a ball! Then we went a little further south to Deerfield Beach where we stayed at Joey and Nancy's house for a few days and enjoyed sharing our stories (Whitney is getting Married, June 15th!!!!!!) ,all the pictures, DVD and adventures... What a nice time we had seeing all our friends!!!

Back in the US, Skiing with Amy and Dave.

We flew back to L. A. then Denver on the 18th of February. It was a long trip (well aprehended by David who hates flying) but the weather was fine and everything went well. We headed towards Crested Butte to visit another kid boat, our sailing friends Amy and Dave (we met them in 2003 in Georgetown, Bahamas). They live in a beautiful ski town far from the beaten track called Crested Butte ( five hours from Denver) and it is a wonderful quiet spot for extreme skiing so we are so excited to see our friends again and ski all together. They are very busy between hockey and skiing (definitely outdoors people who would have loved NZ!). It is fun to ski, hang out and bead (Dionne: Amy is making one of your bead bag, you see, you are famous around the globe!, my Mom in France have the whole bead class doing bead bag now, when they are finished, they will take a picture and e-mail it to you!). A bientot.

Whangarei, Last Port in New Zealand

02/07/2009

After preparing O'Vive for shipment with Dockwise, we left Auckland and Bayswater marina. We decided to spend those last two weeks in Whangarei where most of the cruising boats of the Pacific crossing 2008 fleet decided to established their base. We found a cute house to rent and we are enjoying some calm time, the kids are catching up with school, I found the most amazing studio to make glass beads with a torch (Emilie and myself took a class we really enjoyed). David is busy putting together a video of the trip, and Alec is back with Jocelyn, his sweetheart from Canada. Malachi is back in town and we enjoyed a nice barbecue at the house last night. We saw one last time Tania and Bern from Upps, it is sad to already begin to say goodbyes. Tin soldier, Candine, lots of familiar boats are getting refitted slowly getting ready for their departure in April. For others like us it is the end of the wave, right here in New Zealand. We are missing Orca III but hopely we will see them one more time before our departure.
