Out of Africa!
07 June 2008 | Heading for St Helena Island
Wayne finally received his documentation papers on Thursday at 12 noon and cleared customs at 1:30pm. When he arrived at customs he gave them the "copy" of the documentation papers not the original just to see if they would accept it. Don't you know they did! All that waiting for the original for the past week. John the captain also told him not to say anything. There is a $200 duty for non South African boats leaving. When the custom officals asked questions and who was the boat owner Wayne nodded, gestured, and shrugged his shoulders. He walked out of there with clearance papers and no charges.
Friday after breakfast, the boat was filled with diesel (went up an additional 70 cents on Wednesday!) and they finally left South Africa.
I am hopefully they can get the ham radio to work and we will hear periodic updates. If I do get any communication I will be sure to post it immediately. I know everyone is giving him positive thoughts and wishing them well. Thank you all............Donna
