Dogs and Sandy Beaches
26 October 2006 | Petit S Vincent
After 4 wonderful months we have finally said farewell to Grenada. We spent 2 weeks in Carriacou and cleared out yesterday from Hillsborough and sailed just around the corner to the lovely little island of Petit St Vincent (PSV). PSV is a very quiet and exclusive resort where the guests get pampered in secluded stone cottages. Each cottage has a flagpole that is used to summon room servidce which soon appears in a mini-moke. The rates are over $500 US a night for a double cottage. We , as cruisers, are able to enjoy the beautiful sandy beach and take shelter in the many thatched shelters which line the beach. We may have dinner in their restaurant and also enjoy a drink in the bar! We'll check that out this evening, the bar that is! It is really great to be out sailing again! We were anchored all by ourselves yesterday and just dove off Eira and snorkled to the beach. Daisy even swam with us to the beach! The kids and Daisy played in the surf and sand, we collected some coconuts before swimming back to Eira for dinner. =
This morning we motored around to the east side of the island, it was a bit rolly where we anchored. The boys decided to take a swim before school and Daisy jumped in as well and barked, naturally. Well she alerted the four Labrador Retrievers who live on PSV and two of them swam out to Eira!! They would NOT go back to the beach! They tried to get on Eira!! The boys all dove in the water and tried to get the dogs to follow them to the beach but they insisted on staying close to Eira and Daisy! Menno had to eventually pull the 2 Labs into the dinghy and row them ashore. They followed her back to Eira...this went on for a good 20 minutes!! I had to put Daisy below and keep her quiet, that is a challenge! Eventually the Labs went back to the beach and stayed! Quite an amusing morning!
