Thursday morning we left for Bay Cay, but first we had to get out of the anchorage at West Caicos. The winds had picked up and there were some intimidating waves crashing in to the entrance of the marina. Paul and Menno went in the dinghy to check it out and concluded that it would be safe to go through as long as you timed it correctly. So that's what we did, but as soon as we thought we were in the clear, a huge pair of waves crashed down on the bow and sent everybody's stomachs into their shoes. Of course the boys had their hands in the air as if it was a roller coaster ride. We made it to Bay Cay after a nice hour-long boat ride. This Cay was pretty much unexplored and it was a lot of fun exploring it. We saw several iguanas while we were walking around. On the way back Menno thought he had found a fun path to go and it was quite an adventure that included many jagged edges, jumps, shrubs and stubbed toes. That night the wind shifted and we had a very rough sleep. The only two that slept fine were the boys who seem unphased by any rocking.
We were more than happy to leave the anchorage Friday morning to go back to Sapodilla beach. We did some more swimming and kayaking and basically chilled out for the day. That night we had a great sundowner which included our new friends from the house, Paul and Karen, all of us, as well as some other boaters and cruisers. We had a great whiffel ball game and the boys hit several home runs.
Saturday we left for Atlanta at about 3 pm. We were sad to leave as we had a great and relaxing experience. Life on the boat is rough, all those sundowners can't be good for you! The hardest part for us will be adjusting to the real world again. Bye bye paradise!
