Here Comes the Wave
15 June 2006 | Rodney Bay, St Lucia
We have been in Rodney Bay for four days waiting for the first "wave" of the season to pass over us. In weather lingo; a Wave is the beginning of a storm, this will turn into a Tropical Lo which is followed by a Tropical Depression and then a Tropical Storm and finally the Grandaddy of them all a Hurricane. So we had a Wave approaching us from the west and had cloudy, rainy, squally weather for 2 days with winds blowing up to 25 knots (and higher in the squalls) at times. There is a great lagoon where we are anchored, very protected and the marina complex is super. Restaurants, bakery, ice cream parlor and a swimming pool! We have also met up with more cruising kids!!!! yahooo!!! Daniel and John are thrilled as are Menno and I! Kalani has Alhani and Kalen and Sundancer has Duncan, Sophie and Quinn on board! The kids have been having a great time since day one! Our first night here all 13 of us went to a great Pizza restaurant which had 2 trampolines and loads of other climbing things for the kids. We did not see the kids until the pizza was served then off again! The next night we all had a potluck "Caribbean Night" on Kalani. It has been great fun.
We took the bus down to Castries to the market yesterday, very colorful with lots of fruits, vegis, spices, fish, wood arts and crafts and of course T-shirts! We bought some cashew apples for the boys to try and they are delicious. It is the apple from the cashew nut. We also like Soursop and John favors Passion Fruit. I will add it to my yoghurt and that is just fine for me. We did break down and buy 4 Wahoo steaks for dinner, still not catching! Menno grilled them and they were delicious! Menno has rigged up two new hand lines for us to put out along with our two fising poles! Hereee Fishy!
We are heading over to the English Fort that sits atop the hill overlooking the harbour this afternoon with Dreamweaver. Then we will continue south tomorrow morning to the Pitons.
