We are no longer a Virgin Hashers. Menno and I joined the Hash House Harriers on their Moonlight Hash at Fort Frederick over looking St Georges in Grenada. We met at the Fort at 630 pm with over 100 other "Hashers" all ready to explore a new area of the island. After being briefed by the leader known as The Hash Master we set off into the mountainous bush shouting "On On" as we followed a trail of shredded paper which took us through some very challenging terrain for nearly 2 hours! It was a full moon on October 8, not that we could see the moon that often, as we climbed through very dense jungle and slid down very muddy hills with only the single beam of our flashlight to lead us on. It was a raaather strenuous hike, climb, slide, run, walk for almost 2 hours in the dark! And yes, it was fun!

Hashing started in 1938 in Kuala Lumpur and was conceived by three British ex-pats. The Hash House was the dining annex to the prestigious Selangor Club and the idea was born out of the need for a bit of physical activity to complement the sport of beer drinking! It is a fun run/walk. Hashing has become popular in many parts of the world, so I have been told! Here in Grenada the Hashers meet every other weekend at a previously designated rum shop and the trail leads everyone back to the rum shop a couple of hours later!
