We're on the Move!
12 November 2007 | Marigot, St Martin
We are in St Martin! It feels great to be moving again and back in the french isle! We had a lovely sail here. The winds were SSE so we first sailed to St Croix then continued on from there and had a better angle on the wind- had both main and genoa up but still had to have on the "iron gennny" (the engine, for you non-nautical types!) inorder to make any forward progress. The seas were flat calm (yahoo!) and the night sky was brillant! Daniel took one watch with me and then the early morning watch with Menno. No, we didn't catch anything, aagghh! A baCaruda DID bite one of Menno's new lures in half...
We pulled into Marigot and it felt so great to be back! Went into the patisserie for our croissant and pan au chocolat! We're not sure how much time willl we spend on the French side yet, with the euro so strong at nearly 1.5, it is not as much of a bargain as before! The French are coming over to the Dutch side to go shopping and out to dinners. French businesses are suffering, so we have been told. Even my wines are a better deal on the Dutch side!
The next day we caught the bridge opening into Simpson Bay Lagoon and voila! We are anchored off the VERY LOUD runway in the lagoon next to Shrimpys. The lagoon is raaather empty, not many boats have arrived yet. Mike, at Shrimpys did say there are more boats coming in every day, good! I have to quote what Sue on Nancy Dawson said about the lack of boats here at this time, it is the same in Falmouth Harbour; "It's like we came to the party way too early, and now we're sitting around like dorks waiting for the cool people to show up!" We hit the happy hour at Shrimpys last night and hooked up to wifi, some things never change!
