Exploring the island

One day Menno took the boys and Jeff snorkelling near Creole Rock just off the coast of Grand Case. They came back exhilirated and so Jeff and Menno took me back out to try.. The last time I went snorkelling --in a real way, that is -- was twenty years ago when Val & I went to the Bahamas while she contemplated marrying Menno (good decision made, as you know), and so I was a little nervous about the whole thing. We took the trust dinghy out to Creole Rock and took the plunge. It was spectacularly beautiful, eerily quiet and a universe of fish whose colors changed when the sun dipped behind a cloud, as Menno pointed out. Back at the Grand Case Beach Club, our second hotel, we sipped drinks while the boys snorkelled around the rocks near the hotel and Daniel and John pointed out the starfish and other creatures that loitered nearer the shore. One day we explored other parts of the island including Philipsburg where we sunbathed and swam and the boys enjoyed a trampoline in the water where they engaged in a game of king of the hill that resulted, invariably, with each of them plummeting into the sea, clambering back on and then taking their revenge on each other. Meanwhile the grown-ups relaxed in the sun and enjoyed cold drinks on the beach. After Philipsburg we headed to another stretch of beautiful beach near Orient Bay where we watched in awe as surfers tied to kites performed flips and spins for our enjoyment. And then... Luke, Daniel and John enjoyed an exuberant run down the beach! It was a sight to behold! That's all I'm allowed to say about the subject.
