Farewell Busy G-town
11 March 2008 | Georgetown, The Exumas
We promised Daniel and John we would spend a month in Georgetown so they could hook up with other cruising kids. That has been done. They had a great time with Meander, Sand Dollar and Pi 2 , just to name a few of the boats. We stayed long enough to participate in some of the Georgetown Regatta games and now we are more than ready to head out and away from all of the many regulated activities. Yowza! It can be a wee bit overwhelming with over 250 boats and so many things happening daily- yoga on the beach, pilates, dominoes, bocci ball, volleyball, basket weaving, bridge, musical jam sessions, happy hours, bonfires, surfing the list goes on and on and on... It is very busy as well as tiring. We did meet up with the fun people and that made all the difference!
Menno and I joined up with Diane and Clint on Sand Dollar and we entered the Coconut Harvest Competition during the regatta. The rules are; one dinghy with no engine, one fin per person to use to propel the dinghy forward, one life vest to be worn some where on your body and one bucket to be used for swamping the other dingys! The object of the Coconut Harvest is to collect as many floating coconuts as you can. It was a blast! We collected 50 coconuts and then had to participate in a Butts and Guts race and did very well. We were the only team that did not drop a coconut and this combined with our coconut total was enough to give us the honors of Third Place! Daniel and John participated in the Scavenger Hunt and John's team, The World Warriors came in First Place and Daniel's team, MAD came in Third Place. We all had a fun time participating in the different events.
