Exuma Land and Sea Park
24 January 2006 | Warderick Wells, Central Bahamas
The Exuma Land and Sea Park is a 44 square mile park consisting of many beautiful cays and it is forbidden to fish or conch in the park. warderick Wells is the cay which the park warden lives on and there is a small information center there telling about some of the wildlifem flora and fauna on the islands. It is like the fish and conch KNOW that we are not allowed to fish in the park and when we went snorkling we saw huge groupers, snappers and gigantic lobsters just looking at us smugly!! It really was spectacular snorkling! John and I saw three giant spotted eagle rays! It was amazing, they glided right next to us and John did not flinch at all! The island has been mapped out by volunteers and trails are marked to beaches, blow holes and ruins from the Loyalists. There is Boo Boo Hill which is a small hill where cruisers have left plagues with their boat name and the year they visited. We, of course, left a plague! John found a nice piece of drift wood a few islands ago and then we carved our EIRA on the wood and the year 2006. We also took some paint out of our art supply and painted the plague as well- I think it looked fabulous!! So there is now a rembrance of our journey on the top of Boo Boo Hill!
We have met up with La Gallipote aka the "Catamaran Kids!" We spent a week with them over x-mas and they have Lea and Simon who the boys have a great time with! It was great meeting up again! We had a great big bonfire on the beach with all of the boats in the anchorage and it was loads of fun! The kids roasted marshmellows and played flash light tag and Daisy ran around herding everyone who tried to sneak off into the bushes to have a pee!!
Photo is at the Exuma Park in Warderick Wells. This Whale beached itself in 1995, it had swallowed plastic and was not able to breathe. Daniel, John, Lea and Simon (aka Catamaran Kids) are standing in front of the whale.
