Rudder Cut Cay
10 February 2006 | Rudder Cut Cay
We spent two days at Rudder Cut Cay. We had school in the mornings then all went snorkling and the reefs were beautiful. The colors were so vivid it was amazing. You think we would get use to the underwater life and all it has to offer but every time we go in we will see something new and different and just love it! Rudder Cut Cay was owned by an American who was embezzling millions of dollars in the US during the 1980's and early 1990's. He got caught back in 1992 and is still in prison. The house that he built is still on the island and has been stripped of most everything. He did have a very nice set up; the house is in the shape of a dome and the master suite is a circular room on the top, very nice. The only thing that the Bahamians were unable to take from the house was the dinning room table, its base is a giant piece of coral rock with a 3 inch glass table on top. He also had a pool and terraced gardens etc.. When Menno and I were here in 1993 the house had just been vacated, it is in the same shape today, nothing has been done . Apparently the island has been bought by the same people who bought Musha Cay which is the cay next door and this cay has been turned into an exclusive resort. Rudder Cut Cay has an airstrip so guests fly in here and are shuttled to Musha Cay. Last time we were here there was plenty of conch, we were not so lucky this time and were unable to find any..We did pick up 5 coconuts though. We left Rudder Cut Cay at 8am on Friday and set sail for Georgetown. It was a 35 mile sail and the day was beautiful! We has norhteast winds and their were 15 other sailboats out there with us all heading to Georgetown. We had the genoa and the mainsail full and had a brisk sail at 6 knots! It was one of the first times we have had such a sail! No school but we did all get some reading done and I read two more chapters of Harry Potter. We had the fishing lines out but no bites, that's ok. We will have school tomorrow, Saturday.
Photo is of Daisy watching Menno snorkle! She has finally noticed all of the fish under the water although she still chases after the birds!
