Southern California - Malibu/San Diego
04 January 2017 | Malibu and San Diego
Rainy
Unfortunately, our time in Southern California was dominated by incredible rain. This is the price to be paid, I guess, to see the beautiful green hills. It was lush and green.
Malibu is undoubtedly a gorgeous place, however, we saw very little of it through the fog and rain. We did have some of the best fish tacos ever! Our RV park was perched up over the ocean. It had beautiful flowers and views. We'd like to go back when it is sunny!
The next stop was San Diego, and this was one of our more tedious days. We got stuck in traffic leaving Malibu, probably a bad car accident, so Dave finally got impatient and did a U-turn (must have been a sight to see a motorhome do a U-turn!). We backtracked about 35 miles (so 70 miles total out of our way), putting us in downtown LA as traffic was building. We passed a car that was on fire on the side of the road. The fire was so big, we were afraid that car would blow up!
We got settled in to the Campland Rv Park on Mission Bay in Pacific Beach. What a location! We stayed pretty busy doing our final preparations for entry in to Mexico (shopping, laundry, etc.) so didn't have enough time to enjoy this spot. But it would be on our list of favorite spots to return to -- great walking to be done around Mission Bay, as well as kayaking and other boat rentals.
