Catavina - In the high desert
10 January 2017
Sunny
Today we travelled inland, into the high desert. The variety of desert plants was really amazing. We drove through granite boulder fields, cactus, and an uncommon tree or cactus called "Cirio" or Boojum Trees. This is one of two places in the world (both in Mexico) where this tree exists. They can live up to 300 years. After settling in to our camp, we took an excursion to see some cave paintings. Radio carbon dates place these petroglyphs at 7000 years old (see photos in my gallery). We had a great authentic Mexican dinner prepared by the owners of the park - 2 tacos, an enchilada, rice and beans. Bring your own plate and drinks, $5.00. Delicious. We are at 1800 feet of elevation and it froze overnight! It was 40 in the RV when we woke!
