Guerrero Negro - Whale Watching
11 January 2017 | Guerrero Negro
Sunny
After dry-camping in Lazaro Cardenas and Catavina, it was very nice to have full hookups (and especially showers) again. However, one thing we have discovered is that all power is not created equal. Dave pulled out his multi-meter and found that the power is running at too high of a voltage (135+), so we are opting not to use the power in order to protect the electronics and appliances in the RV. That's OK . . . the new solar panels that we installed are working great and so far we have been able to generate enough power that we haven't even used the generator. It is very cool!
The highlight at Guerrero Negro is the whale watching. The grey whales return from the Northern waters in December and January to have their babies in several lagoons in Baja. Scammon's Lagoon is one of the best places to view them, and there can be more than 2000 whales in this lagoon at its peak. We are a little early in the season, but there are still more than 100 whales in this lagoon. We went out in small "panga" boats, so we were sitting very close to the water, and the we got such great views of the whales and babies. It was really amazing, I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys whale watching.
