Dreamin' of Sailing

Birthday on the Beach - Playa Santispak

24 February 2017 | Playa Santispak
Sunny and windy
During most of this trip we have been on the move, and we have been looking forward to our one month layover in between caravans to settle in to the beach routine. We settled on Playa Santispak and lucked out and got the most beautiful spot on the beach. It is a bit secluded, down the road a ways from the 70 RV's lined up on the beach. The water laps up about 10 feet from the RV.

One of the things we like best about being on the beach is that the vendors come around daily with fresh goods. We had our favorite -- we befriended Luli, the wife of a local Rotarian. We bought fresh shrimp, sea bass, ceviche, tamales (made by her Mom), empanadas and banana bread (made by her sister.)

So Dave chatted with her to arrange a birthday cake for today, so she showed up with the most beautiful Tres Leches cake, made by her sister.

We had been visiting and hanging out with two sailing couples, so after some great kayaking, we got a dinghy ride out to one of their boats, S/V Attitude, where the six of us visited and had happy hour with fresh shrimp ceviche, specialty cheeses, and margaritas! It was extremely windy, but the beautiful Hans Christian 48 (limited production, contemporary style) barely bounced in the water.

Brian and Barb, from S/V Gaviota (Catalina 30) gave me a jar of weathered obsidion from Mexico, along with the story of the "Apache Tears". Kathy meanwhile found a birthday princess hat and an umbrella for my drink. We all went into the beach for dinner and cake at Armando's. We really had a great time with our new friends and hope our paths cross again!
