It's Just to Bad

06 May 2016 | Wrightsville Beach ICW MM 283.2
Lawrence/ 63 degrees/ Sun & Clouds/Northwest Winds
We love Wrightsville Beach. It is a great anchorage and it is so nice to be able to get rid of trash properly, get fresh water easily and go to the beach just a couple of blocks away.
Sadly, many of the local boaters don't consider it necessary to slow up for anchored boats and often rip through the anchor leaving pretty large wakes. Usually, our response is -Oh Well. The other day, however a group of young botaers pulling a skier went right behind our boat throwing a 3 foot wake. The wake went completely over our transom and into our cockpit. The water completely covered our generator killing the engine. Bad as that was they did it twice. For awhile our generator would not even start. It was just completely reckless boating. Today a Coast Guard patrol came by and I spoke with them about the incident. They gave me a phone number for the local Coast Guard station and told us to call if it should happen again. The local Coast Guard Station telephone number is:910-256-4224. I hope this deliberate disregard for common courtesy isn't ever repeated for us or any other boater, but should it happen here to you, then you now know who you can contact.
