Update from Great Bridge
18 October 2016 | Great Bridge Free Town Dock
Lawrence/ Sunny/ 80 degrees
We're stuck! Our transmission is slipping in forward. We still have reverse, but we don't really want to back down the ICW. We'll have to wait here until Atlantic Yacht Basin can take us in and repair the transmission. We could be here a while. The number of boats passing through heading South is remarkable. Last night there were 10 boats at a dock that only handles 5. We had two boats rafted to us and so did the boat in front of us. You can get a little sense of it from the photo above. At least we're not stuck in the middle of the Georgia marshes.
We had a nice visit from Mary Castner from M/V Isis and M/V Mighty Fine is due here tomorrow, both from Point Bay Marina in Vermont. We should have a nice time when everyone is here. We may even go out to dinner together, which would be a welcome relief from the stress we've felt about being stuck.
If you have to be stuck somewhere, you could do a lot worse than Great Bridge. We've easy access to food, restaurants, propane and most importantly a well known repair boat yard.
Fair winds & Smooth sailing,
Elaine & Lawrence S/V Elle & I
