Did you look at that temperature and the rain? Yep, we are back in the Northeast!
We finally had a great trip up here. Sunday morning we left Atlantic City for NYC at 04:45. It was a beautiful day. For the first 7 hours we had the main up, but very little wind. The engine carried us along for that part of the day. The ocean was like glass with very gentle swells. For last 5.5 hours we had wind out of the Southeast with both sails up and the engine running we were doing 7 to 8.5 knots. It was both the quickest and most pleasant voyage to the Big Apple that we have had in our two years of cruising. We dropped anchor in Gravesend bay at 17:15.
This morning we got up to heavy rain, but we decided to get out of NYC (Elaine calls it Hell-Harbor). It is far nicer to sit in the rain off the Hudson River here in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. We plan to take the day off tomorrow and relax after 4 non-stop days of cruising. We can be such wimps! Wednesday we'll head for Pollepel Island and if all goes well, we'll get to Hop-O-Nose Marina on Catskill Creek on Thursday. H-O-N is our home for the Summer. It's great to be back with family and friends.
Fair winds & Smooth sailing,
Elaine & Lawrence S/V Elle & I
