Yesterday was a beautiful day, warm with a slight breeze and so we dinghied into town tieing up to a small dock to walk into town, which is a beautiful, quaint town. My favorite house has a sign near its gardens saying"God protect this house from weather and wind, and don't let boring people in!" As we returned to the dinghy after stopping to get a few provisions at the local ACME market, I talked to a crab fisherman to confirm this was the the time of year to catch the infamous Maryland Blue Crabs!Indeed it is, and he gave me 6 chicken necks which were unavailable in town. I wanted to pay him,but he would not take any cash. We returned to the boat and slowly caught 2 crabs which we kept in a bucket of salt water overnight. Still alive this morning, we kept trying. We went into town to meet up with Karen and Jeff from M/V aCapella to meet Dee Dee and reacquaint ourselves with Dylan. It was a wonderful get together especially since we had not seen them since our first year in the East River off of Mobjack Bay (at that time, none of us were sure we would even do a second year!). When we arrived where we tie up the dinghy the crab fisherman was still there. I brought him a jar of Stonewall Kitchen Strawberry Rhubarb jam and a thank you note for him. He was delighted!! He asked what we were keeping the crabs in - only 3 thus far, and I told him a bucket with salt water. He immediately gave me a wooden bushel basket with lid and said to keep our crabs in there and submerse them in the salt water til I was ready to steam them. He was just the nicest man and, even he seemed pleased that I was not giving up. I was also able to buy the very last container of Old Bay seasoning for preparing the crab meat!! Again, a beautiful day in St., Michaels seeing friends, crabbing, and enjoying a very beautiful sunset. Tomorrow, another day of crabbing and perhaps another trip into town to do a little shopping. Seems, due to nasty weather coming in on Friday afternoon and Saturday, and some strong south winds after that we will stay until Monday or Tuesday which gives plenty of time for all we want to do here! There is even still the Maritime Museum! Who knows, perhaps I'll cater a crab cake dinner with remoulade sauce and fresh green salad with mushrooms, peppers, cukes, tomatoes topped with a balsamic vinaigrette! Or, freeze the crab meat for when we arrive at Judy and Don Polifka as Don is the expert crabcake maker!!!
