We Gotta Get Out of This Place!

19 January 2016 | Vero Beach, FL
Lawrence/ Sunny/ 58 degrees/ Strong North winds
"If it's the last thing we ever dooo." I loved that song! It expresses the sentiment of a lot of us in Vero. As Earl on S/V Seeker has said," We need to reach escape velocity." Earl was right again when he mentioned that gravity in Vero Beach is particularly strong. Getting away from Vero can be tough. They don't call it "Velcro Beach" for no reason. Well the cool weather helps with that. Right now it is 58 degrees. Being on the water with the wind and humidity makes that feel much colder. It would sure be nice to be even further South than we already are, so we're headed for Miami tomorrow. It looks like we can get out on the Atlantic this coming Sunday from Fort Lauderdale to Miami for the 5 hours it takes to make that short run outside the ICW. Between Vero and Fort Lauderdale are about 112 miles and a bunch of bridges ( a few over 30 that we have to have wait for while they are opened). The trip will take us 3 days, so we're giving ourselves 4 days to make our anchorage in Ft. Luderdale. Today we're getting last minute things taken care of. We're getting a pump-out, topping off our water supply and fuel. Grocery shopping is done and we had Peter come by today to check out the bottom of the boat and replace the zinc. He brought along some company with him pictured above. Pelicans rarely get close to people. It must be the cool air! Anyway, we're set to leave and start further South on Wednesday. We hope that weather window on Sunday stays open!
