Our Last day @ Sunrise Bay
01 February 2016 | Last Day @ Sunrise Bay
Lawrence/Heavy Rain & Clouds/73 degrees/Southeast winds
Today is day 11 of our stay at Sunrise Bay and our last. Initially, our reason for staying was to escape the bedlam down at Lake Sylvia and wait for a window suitable for the short hop to Miami. Gradually, our reason changed to recognition of and resignation to weather preventing our hop to Miami. In fairness, we could have made it to Miami Sunday, but then what? The weather on the West Coast of Florida has been just as bad as it has been here on the East Coast. We could stay in the Miami area, which is warmer than in Vero Beach, but we would never be able to get off the boat due to the limitations placed on dinghies by Miami Beach. With these things in mind, we decided our best course would be to head back North to Vero Beach. After all, Vero at least seems to want boaters. Once again, weather became a factor in our decision about when to head North. We've seen a lot of wind and rain, while the renowned Florida sunshine has been conspicuous by it's absence. It's been pretty cold for Florida as well. We've had help down here. Bette and Ernie on S/V Iemanja helped us out by getting us groceries twice. Thank you so much! Elaine and I are so glad you made it over to the Bahamas safely! Have fun over there!
It's raining here again today, but tomorrow looks like a good day to start back to Vero. It hasn't been all doom and gloom. Yesterday, the Coral Ridge Yacht Club had their boat parade. It was a blast to watch with everyone in blue blazers and white slacks, huge yachts and cannon fire salutes. It's nice to see people showing their affection for their organization (even if it's a little ostentatious). Anyway, our plan is to stay near Vero Beach for the rest of the winter and then take a more leisurely trip back to the Chesapeake Bay.
Fair winds & Smooth sailing,
Elaine & Lawrence S/V Elle & I
