Heading for plymouth
Will Sayer
05/03/09, Lyme Bay

Morning all.

The looming lights of Dartmouth were to tempting in the early hours of Saturday morning drifting around the Lyme bay. So instead of the Eddystone lighthouse and a visit to Marco in Plymouth I opted for a relaxing day in Dartmouth.

A nice fry up in the cafe, a disgusting curry and a good few hours sleep and im now off heading for Portland Bill. Fantastic beam reach and 16 knots of apparent wind and im doing a good 7kn boat speed.

Just popped up to tweek the Navik - In these condition she does like to wonder a bit. At least i am heading within 10 degreeS of Portland now.

So how has my trip beem. Well if you recieve this part of it will have been sucsesful. Naviks gone again - now doin 065 deg instead of 78deg. Better go and tweek it.....back again.

Rigth where was I. Sat comms seem to be working. However i dont seem to be able to use UGRIB. It times out after about 2 mins. What else - oh yeah - Waitrose tinned chicken and white sause it pretty good - i'll take a few of them. Scrambled eggs and a part baked bread works great for a hearty breakfast. I suppose my biggets concern has to be the drain my laptop has on my batteries. I seem to be managing at the moment but I will only know if the balance between amps in and amps out is good enough when I have been at sea a few days.

What a lovely day out here in Lyme bay. The sun is shining the wind is blowing and I am flying along. Passed two crusing boats already and got my eyes set on anoher.

Okay, well im going to leave it there and hope that this gets posted on Blogstar and also see if it makes it to www.willymakeit.co.uk.

Cheers for now.

Will and Elmarleen.

Marco - Hope the boat work is going well. Paul B - How the delivery trip going. Rob C - Did you win the Weymouth double. Tamsin - If the wind stays like this i'll be up to see you Monday afternoon. :-)

Here it is - The autopilot that will give the Navik wind vane rest or help out in the light winds.

All of the improvements look great. So have you had your autopilot apart and back together. It seems every story I read about someone taking a long voyage the common failing point is the autopilot.
So when do you take off?

More reinforcement. Even if it isnt needed it will help me sleep on those windy, crashing around nights.

Mug and bowl holder
Will Sayer
15/02/09

As I expect to only use one hob for the majority of meals I have made a mug and bowl holder to fit over the other. This should work well and give me somewhere that gimbals to place my food and drinks while preparing them.

Bean Bags
Will Sayer
15/02/09

Im taking two bean bags with me on the race. One large one for lying and lounging on while trying to rest and another for behind the chart table to use as a seat when heeled. They are both waterproof and hopefully wont burst!!!!

I'm also wondering if I should take my guitar with me to keep me entertained.

cool post. My wife plays guitar and her concern whenever we go somewhere is what the moisture will do to her guitar. My thoughts are that if you take a guitar, don't bring your best one, bring one that you will not be heart broken if it is ruined.
New boom fittings

Here is some of the new gear for the boom. I plan to make a number of changes. I've added a third reef line, a new custom vang fitting and a 4:1 outhaul that shouldn't need winching.
