Yes, places like this really do exist, and since someboby has to go there, why not us?
We departed the Port Everglades inlet at 0715 on Sunday, 4/1, and set course for the west end of Grand Bahama Island. The gulf stream was a little bumpy, but the extra 15 miles of distance that we gained was much appreciated. By 1530 we were entering the Little Bahama bank at Indian Cay passage. We spent the first night in the Bahamas at Mangrove Cay and enjoyed a classic Bahamian sunset.
The next night we stayed at Great Sale Cay, and then went on to Powell Cay after clearing customs at Spanish Cay ( $300 to the customs agent and $50 to the Spanish Cay Resort for letting us tie up the dinghy for 30 minutes). Hiking on Powell Cay was a reminder of why the loyalists who came here after the Revolutionary War had such a hard time. These are truly barren desert islands.
Wednesday night we stayed at Munjack Cay, but the next morning it was clear that the weather was going to change. We decided to stay at the Green Turtle Club marina on Green Turtle Cay for the next several days while a front moves through.
This is a friendly picture postcard perfect resort on White Sound, so we will have internet for the next few days. This morning we took a long walk around the north end of the island, and tomorrow we'll spend the day in New Plymouth learning a little of the local history and visiting the shops.
I'm almost afraid to say anything, but the engine is performing perfectly and the new house bank of batteries is great.
Hope all of our friends in Santa Barbara and Longview are well
