This enjoyable little town is part way through the C and D Canal, a historic waterway connecting the upper Chesapeake Bay to Delaware Bay. We were able to tie up at the free city dock, and for only $15 had 50A power for the air condtioner. After visiting several shops, we walked to the C and D Canal museum, maintained by the Corps of Engineers. This is one of the busiest canals in the world, and when first opened in 1829, was an engineering marvel. Over the course of 150 years the canal was deepened, widened, and eventually changed to a sea level channel without locks.
We had excellent crab cakes at the Bayard Inn, and settled in to watch the Olympics on TV. Tomorrow, on to Cape May.
