On leaving Reykjavik we decided to follow the whale watching boats for a bit and were lucky to see some whales..although we're not sure exactly what kind! We headed south west aiming for approximately 100 miles south of Cape Farewell. Conditions were mixed but we had good sailing for the first half the passage. It got a bit rough west of Cape Farewell and then very light once we were heading north towards Nuuk. We didn't see too much as it was very foggy for a lot of the time. Alex spotted some more whales though and we saw some dolphins and interesting seabirds too. Our first iceberg was quite exciting..it was a few miles away but amazing to see for those of us who hadn't seen one before. After 11 days sailing we arrived in Nuuk and just in time as the weather turned terrible the next day. Most of our time in Nuuk was spent doing repairs and odd jobs..but we made time to sample the local beer (Godthab Pale Ale is very good!) and cuisine. An iceberg drifted into the harbour so we went out in the dinghy for a closer look which was fun, and also went fishing a few times after the man in the gun/diesel/fishing shop told us the fish will go for any bait just about. Alex caught five decent fish and Katherine a very small spiky fish that looked like seaweed.
